Today so much thought is given to obtaining and having power. Yet where does real power rest? I am sure you have experienced the healing power of prayer. Have you ever stopped to consider the power that you have when you pray in Christian Science? Where do we look for real and lasting power? Having experienced the power of answered prayer, is not this where we find the real power in the universe and in our own lives? Do we yet realize the invincible power we have right in our own prayers? It is God’s power, the ultimate power. It can move mountains and resolve seemingly insolvable problems.
For over a century, powerful, deeply inspired, healing prayers by Christian Science practitioners and the daily study by those practicing this Science as a way of life, have been going out into world consciousness. Yet the news outlets each day report disasters and bitter conflicts taking place throughout the world along with the demand for more democracy, freedom, justice, and human rights. Mrs. Eddy, it seems, could foresee this pending upheaval, for she wrote in Science and Health on page 83, “Science only, can explain the incredible good and evil elements now coming to the surface. Mortals must find refuge in Truth in order to escape the error of these latter days.”. And on page 96, “The material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. The breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want and woe, sin, sickness, and death, and will assume new phases until their nothingness appears. These disturbances will continue until the end of error, when all discord will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth.” We cannot be afraid of the changes taking place in the world for it will be seen to be the Truth bringing healing and blessings to humanity.
In spite of outward appearances, Christian Science is still very active in world consciousness. We continue to go through periods in which a new and higher form of civilization unfolds. We cannot yet see how it is going to turn out, because there has never been a period like this in history. However, today’s scientific progress and freedom of information is bringing about much unrest and discontent from those wanting more than a life of toil, poverty, and domination. Foreseeing this time of difficult and traumatic change, our Leader also wrote in Science and Health page 192, “Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise.”
Let us silently and persistently affirm that evil has no power or reality. Our daily work for the world can keep the pure Truth so clear in our thoughts that we are not completely mesmerized or overcome by the events taking place. Mrs. Eddy made a very clear separation between the real and the unreal. All of the present turmoil and conflict taking place is the human belief that evil is real. As we put these daily events over in the realm of the unreal, and understand that discord and conflict are not going on in the universe of divine Love, we can help others rise above fear and distress, and find peace and reassurance in knowing that God is All. We can always keep our Leader’s words before us found in Miscellany page 210 “Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them.” To do this, you can make more time to read Christian Science throughout the day and try to think in it.
I highly recommend becoming very informed regarding animal magnetism. Knowing what evil is and how it operates, enables you to be immune to its attacks, and its seeming reality and power. This Science of God cannot be lost, but it presently seems hidden in the depths of mankind’s collective mental atmosphere, waiting until mankind can understand the blessing available in its healing power. Christian Science is still a dynamic vision, slumbering gently in the depths of world consciousness, but in time, it will surface again, enjoy a renaissance and give greater freedom, health, and abundance to all mankind. Our prayers are needed to bring Christian Science to the world’s attention once again.
