Richard Haw was born in Natal, South Africa, educated at the University of Natal, and through private study with the University of South Africa. He had a varied career as research chemist, topographical surveyor, farmer, conservation and agricultural officer, teacher, headmaster, and public relations and media executive. He was also a dedicated Christian Scientist. He had many articles in the Christian Science periodicals before he published Mindpower and The Spiritual Dimension independently of the Church organization.
